Shock as Killarney dad-of-three dies abroad
&
The funeral of Killarney man Tom Griffin, who died suddenly while windsurfing in Portugal last week, will take place today (Friday) in O’Shea’s Funeral Home.
Mr Griffin collapsed on Fonte de Telha beach in Almada, near Lisbon, on Wednesday, June 12.
He worked at the Intel HQ in Leixlip, Co Kildare, but was originally from Muckross in Killarney.
It’s believed that Mr Griffin left the water on foot after feeling ill before fainting on the beach. Emergency services were called shortly after 4pm, but despite the efforts of local Maritime Police and medical crews, Mr Griffin died shortly after.
“On behalf of the people of Killarney and in particular the people of the Muckross area, I express my deepest sympathy,” Killarney Mayor, Michael Gleeson, said. “It is particularly sad as his mother only recently passed away.”
Mr Griffin is reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Cathedral Place until 6.30pm today.
Requiem Mass will take place at St Mary’s Cathedral tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10.30am, followed by burial in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
He was predeceased by his mother Kathleen.
He is survived by his wife Michelle (Buckley), daughters Laura and Louise, son David, and father Michael.
