Killarney couples renew vows at St Mary’s Cathedral

Several couples celebrating significant wedding anniversaries gathered last Saturday at St Mary’s Cathedral to renew their vows. The annual event, organised by Killarney Parish Administrator Fr Kieran O’Brien, is a local tradition for those marking significant milestones and anniversaries.Fr O’Brien was assisted by Fr Vitalis Barasa.Following the ceremony, the couples, along with family and friends, moved to St Brendan’s College for refreshments. New seating unveiled as Spa GAA celebrates

It has been a busy period at Spa GAA as the club continues to develop its ground facilities while also marking a major milestone in its sporting history.

The club recently completed further ground improvements with the installation of new seating on the clubhouse side of the pitch.

Located over the terrace area directly on the halfway line, the new seating offers an upgraded viewing area for spectators.

Club volunteer John Hannon of JH Fitout Ltd, who also coaches the Under 10 boys team, assisted with the installation work.

Alongside the developments on the pitch, over 100 people gathered for the club’s annual mass, which was celebrated by Club President Fr Tim O’Sullivan and Club Vice President Fr Michael O’Donoghue.

Following the service, Spa GAA held a special presentation to honour the 60th anniversary of the 1966 O’Donoghue Cup winning team.

All surviving members of the historic side attended the gathering, alongside family representatives of deceased players and team mentors.

The evening provided a chance for the club community to come together, reflect on past successes, and share memories of one of the most famous teams in Spa GAA history.

New singing group launches in Killarney

A new adult singing group, ‘SING Killarney’, is launching this month, offering locals a informal community singalong with no requirement to live in the town.

Founded by Tom and Breda O’Shea, the group has joined forces with local musician Ben Quinlan, who will lead the weekly sessions.

The group focuses on popular music across all genres in an informal setting.

“SING Killarney is not a choir, we are essentially a weekly community singalong where there is no pressure and no expectation to be perfect,” said founder Tom O’Shea. “Song sheets will be provided and can be used each week. Our focus is on connection, not perfection.”

The group meets every Wednesday evening at the Presentation Monastery School on New Road, Killarney.

The initial five-week term starts on August 26, with registration taking place from 7.45pm and singing from 8.00pm. The cost for the five-week term is €25.

Due to limited space and high demand, pre-registration is recommended.
