There are calls to build a bus shelter in Barraduff.

The village has a growing population, with many young families now in the area but here’s no bus facilities in the area.

“Children must sit in their parents’ cars, while many left standing out in the elements waiting for the school bus. There’s a Bus Eireann stop there also so it will benefit all bus users,” said Cllr Martin Grady.

“The shelter will provide a safe designated area and may encourage people to use the bus rather than drive promoting sustainable commuting and eco-friendly travelling.”

Speaking at a recent Killarney Municipal District meeting Grady asked: “Could the council liaise with Bus Éireann seeking to erect a bus shelter at Barraduff to accommodate those using public transport and the school bus?"

A council official replied: “Kerry County Council is liaising with the Local Link and the National Transport Authority to roll out a programme of bus shelters and bus stop upgrades throughout the County.”

Killarney RFC’s senior men secured promotion to Munster Junior League Division 2 following a decisive home win over Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne in Aghadoe on Sunday.

The 1st XV produced a dominant performance to record a 57–19 victory, a result that confirms promotion with two league games still to play. It caps off one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history, with Killarney picking up bonus points in every league win to date.
Killarney crossed for nine tries in total, underlining their attacking strength. Diarmuid Carr led the way with two tries, while Padraic Talbot, John McCarthy, Liam Randles, Alex O’Leary, Stephen Walsh, Harry Kelly and Paul Moynihan also touched down. Ciarán O’Brien converted twice, with Harry Kelly adding four conversions.
The home side controlled the game from the early stages, using strong forward play to set a solid platform before releasing their backs. Despite resistance from the visitors, Killarney maintained their intensity throughout and pulled clear in the second half.
The promotion reflects the consistency shown by the squad since the start of the season and is a reward for months of hard work from players and management alike. With two fixtures remaining, Killarney will now look to finish the campaign strongly as they prepare for life in Division 2 next season.

The ‘Leading Lights’ programme is designed to support local groups that share common goals in the areas of education, technology, children, and family.

By channelling funds directly into the community, the initiative aims to recognise the dedication of local organisations that give their time and commitment to improving their surroundings.
