The team at Great Southern Killarney wish to spread some festive cheer this Christmas and have joined forces with Focus Ireland to support homeless families in Munster with a gift-box appeal.

Great Southern are reaching out to families and schools to donate new gifts such as toys, books and pyjamas for boys and girls who are aged 0-12 years to fill as many gift-boxes as possible.

Join the team at Great Southern Killarney along with your family on December 4 to drop off your gift to The Reading Room.

Afterwards you can enjoy some hot chocolate, festive treats and the children can also meet Santa and the Elves around 3pm.

"We are delighted to be involved with such a worthy charity and to be bringing joy to children across Munster," Hayfield Family Collection Group Sales & Marketing Director, Danielle Murrihy, who has been liaising with Focus Ireland on this initiative, said.

"If you would like to get involved, please drop off your gift to Great Southern Killarney on Saturday December 4 from 11am-4pm. Please note that all gifts must be new. We look forwarding to welcoming you."

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
