Killarney South Doc staff serve strike notice
By Sean Moriarty
Killarney based call centre employees that manage the out of hours South Doc medical service are set to go on strike later this month.
The call centre, which is located in Hilliard’s Lane in Killarney town centre, matches patient and doctor requirements at the four South Doc clinics in the county.
Both Tralee and Killarney offer a full-time out of hours medical service while a reduced service is offered at both Dingle and Cahersiveen.
The whole operation is managed by administration staff at the Killarney branch and they have served strike notice on the HSE.
“This action is necessary because of the failure of the HSE to restore pay reductions imposed on workers in Section 39 organisations in line with an agreement brokered at the Workplace Relations Commission in October 2018,” said SIPTU Public Administration and Community Division Organiser Adrian Kane in a statement.
Killarney staff will down tools on December 18, three days after Cork-based South Doc staff do the same.
Additional protests will take place outside the constituency offices of the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney.
