The troubled Farranfore trunk main, which has forced the road closure between Killarney and Tralee on many occasions over the number of years, looks to have a solution in sight.

This is according to a written correspondence received by Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae who has made numerous representations to Irish Water on the troubled main.

“The Farranfore pipeline has caused much distress for both locals and those travelling the busy Tralee-Killarney Road especially during the summer months in which burst pipes have led to continuous hour-long delays or longer as well as forcing the closures of local schools who were left without water especially in these COVID times,” Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae said.

Writing to Cllr Healy-Rae, Irish Water have confirmed that they have now approved the 1km section of the 600mm trunk main at Farranfore to be replaced this year with their contractor aiming to begin works in the first week of September.

“Having made numerous representations to Irish Water, both with others and on my own, I am delighted to receive this confirmation. It is good news for Farranfore and the surrounding areas, and I hope it is the first real steps being taken in ending what really is a very stressful situation for everyone when that main burst in the past.”
