A unique policy at one Killarney company is helping the children of its employees on their journey through third-level education.

The Tricel bursary is an award aimed at recognising and supporting talented students on their journey towards reaching their full academic potential.

This year, Mike Stack, Tricel Group CEO, awarded Danielle Gleeson a €1,000 bursary.

She has been given an opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on work experience through a summer work placement in the Tricel Group.

Her mother Bridget is a Tricel Group employee.

Danielle is studying for a Bachelor of Arts at University College Cork. Danielle started working in Tricel as a Lean Engineer Summer student in May.

“Due to Tricel’s ongoing mission to support the next generation in their careers, Tricel plans to extend its bursary fund this year,” said Mr Stack.

A second award was presented to Aiden Brady who is on a summer placement with Tricel subsidiary Gem Oils in Cavan.

The evening included a repertoire of jigs, reels, and slow airs. During the performance, Kathleen Loughnane shared historical insights into the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792, where Edward Bunting recorded ancient tunes to preserve them. She also highlighted the story of a North Kerry man named Lyons who served as the harper to Lord Antrim.
Former Mayor of Killarney, Michael Gleeson, was among the attendees and praised the event for its informative and enjoyable atmosphere. He noted that the music helped dispel the gloom of recent weather and extended his thanks to Patricia and the organizing team.
The performers brought distinguished backgrounds to the Killarney stage. Mary Bergin, originally from Dublin and now living in Connemara, received an Honorary Doctorate from UCD in 2022. Kathleen Loughnane, a native of
