Rival competitor ruins Fassbender’s Barcelona race

Michael Fassbender was on course for the best result of his racing career until he was pushed off the track by a rival.
The Fossa man was back behind the wheel of a racing car for the first time since June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Driving for Proton Competition, he and his teammates Richard Lietz and Zach Robichon were contesting the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series in Barcelona.
Fassbender was the first of the trio to drive. He got off to a very good start and was running in second place when the incident occurred.
Another driver hit his Porsche 911RSR in the rear and he spun.
His teammates Richard Lietz and Zach Robichon made up ground as the race progressed, but at the finish the trio had to settle for eighth place despite such a strong performance.
“I got off to a good start at the start and was able to move up a few positions, all the more annoying that our race was ruined by such an unnecessary action by a competitor,” said the Hollywood A-lister.
His season will conclude with events in Belgium (September 25) and Portugal (October 16). He is currently 12th in the championship standings.
