Purple power at Killarney Community College
T
THE transition year students of Killarney Community College raised the Purple Flag with pride recently. A special graduation ceremony for the transition year students last Friday saw the students awarded certification for their research on “Killarney at night”. “The Purple Flag is an international accreditation scheme for towns and city centres in the evening and at night,” said TY co-ordinator Kerri McCarthy. “It is the ‘gold standard’ for night-time destinations.”
Killarney Community College Transition Year students and Ms McCarthy worked closely with Seamus Whitty from Kerry Life Skills to analyse the research and provide recommendations to the Purple Flag Working group.
Attending the graduation ceremony were Killarney Chamber President Paul O’Neill and Councillor Michael Gleeson.
In addition, the transition-year students joined forces with Killarney Looking Good/Killarney Tidy Towns to make bird boxes for Killarney National Park.
