Potential to use HSE land for Killarney social housing

The Land Development Agency will meet next week to discuss the potential of using Health and Safety Executive lands for social housing in Killarney.
Elected members of each of the Kerry municipal districts, along with County Manager Moira Murrell and Kerry County Council’s director of housing Martin O’Donoghue met, online, with housing minister Darragh O’Brien this week.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss options for housing on publicly owned lands in Kerry for potential social and affordable housing developments, and in particular all HSE owned lands and property in Killarney.
Cllr Brendan Cronin pushed for HSE owned land to be used for the construction of social housing. For years he has been calling on the unused St Finan’s site to be used for such purposes.
“I welcome this meeting as I have been continuously pushing for the Land Development Agency and Kerry County Council to engage and examine suitable sites to deliver social and affordable housing in our Municipal District,” said Cronin.
During the online meeting Minister O’Brien confirmed that the LDA will meet again next week to discuss this matter.
