Plaque unveiling for Moving Bog remembrance

The 125th anniversary of the Moving Bog Disaster in east Kerry will be marked with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the Old Chapel Cemetery, Rathmore, during Christmas.
Five of the victims, Con (44) and Johanna Donnelly (38) and three of their children are buried in the cemetery.
The bodies of three other Donnelly children were never found.
The Donnelly home, near Gneeveguilla, was engulfed in a landslide after a huge section of bog moved down a slope on December 28, 1896.
The plaque, erected by the local history society Cumann Luachra, will be unveiled at the cemetery on Tuesday December 28. A talk on the tragedy will also be given.
