Parking crisis worsening traffic congestion in town centre
Independent councillor Martin Grady has called for urgent action to address the town's growing parking crisis, which he believes is exacerbating traffic congestion.
Cllr Grady claims that a shortage of parking spaces is forcing motorists to circle the town in search of a spot, leading to increased traffic congestion.
He also highlighted the issue of residents being unable to park outside their own homes due to a lack of available spaces.
The councillor pointed to the removal of 80 parking spaces for outdoor dining as a contributing factor to the problem. He also criticised the impact of pedestrianisation and one-way streets on the town's parking situation.
While acknowledging the importance of tourism to Killarney's economy, Cllr Grady stressed the need to prioritise the needs of local residents. He proposed the construction of a multi-storey car park as a potential solution to the parking crisis.
