No extra parking spaces at Torc

Neither Kerry County Council or the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are in a position to increase the size of the car park at Torc Waterfall.
Due to the numbers of people visiting the popular tourist amenity, cars are often parked on the N72 Moll’s Gap road. This has raised concerns that emergency vehicles may be restricted in accessing parts of the National Park especially following last month’s forest fires in the area.
Cllr Maura Healy-Rae asked the Council to provide extra parking spaces in the area.
“I believe this is not an unreasonable request given the serious safety issues posed with people parking along the main road as there is no space in the car park,” she said.
Killarney Municipal District officials have spoken to NPWS officers about the provision of a car park at Torc.
“The issue was raised at a meeting held between the members [elected KMD officers] and the NPWS, where they informed us that given its location within a Special Area of Conservation there was no potential to increase the size of the car park,” and Kerry County Council official said.
