A new paved walking track on the perimeter of Spa GAA Club’s grounds is nearing completion and should be open just in time for traditional New Year fitness programmes.

A temporary walking track has existed on the club’s playing pitches since early 2019 but the club officials wanted to make it a more permanent structure.

Now, thanks to funding by the Kerry County Council Community Support Fund, the new paved track is taking shape.

“The first track was around the property boundary and was a temporary trail, part grass, part stone and part paved road," Deirdre O'Sullivan Darcy, Spa GAA PRO, told the Killarney Advertiser.

"Although the pathway, which runs almost 1km all the way around, was easy to follow, the surface of the path needed work. Our field committee have been busy recently working on creating a new walking track in Spa. The idea of a walking track first came about in early 2019 when some of our wonderful volunteers signed us up to take part in RTE’s ‘Operation Transformation’ campaign in conjunction with the GAA, called ‘Ireland Lights Up’.”
