Music is right down Killarney’s street

The public street sound system installed in the centre of Killarney has been hailed as a great success by the parties involved.
The system brings appropriate, properly-pitched music to the streets and it certainly creates a great ambience as people go about their business each day.
The initiative is funded by Kerry County Council through the Community Support Fund and it is fully backed by Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce.
It involved the installation of speakers strategically placed in the town centre.
The idea was first mooted at a meeting of Killarney Municipal District Council where councillors felt it would create a welcoming and positive atmosphere in the town centre.
The proposal had been explored several times previously and it was felt that such a development would greatly enhance the town centre core.
Funding options were explored and officials agreed that a public sound system would be a meritorious project.
Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce Senior Executive, Bridget O’Keeffe, said the feedback from the public and from businesses had been hugely favourable and that it added a great atmosphere in the town centre.
