Make Way Day highlights obstacles facing wheelchair users
D
Disability groups and local authorities across the country came together on Wednesday in an attempt to create awareness about some of the difficulties people with disabilities and wheelchair users face in public places.
The aim of the Make Way Day campaign is to highlight obstacles such as cars or vans parked on a footpath blocking the way, or bicycles chained to lampposts creating a trip hazard.
As these pictures show, several examples were found in Killarney town and it is hoped that highlighting the problem will lead to greater awareness among the general public.
We would like to encourage our readers to be conscious of the space you’re taking up when parking your car, bike, or tying up your pets. For more information, check out makewayday.com.
