Main Street to be made one-way street
Killarney Municipal District councillors have unanimously approved plans for significant public realm improvements to Main Street and Kenmare Place in the town centre.
The proposed changes, outlined in a report from Kerry County Council, include converting a section of Main Street into a one-way street. This change will improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety.
Specific improvements include the creation of new and expanded bus set-down areas, including a new area outside the Plaza Hotel and an extended area outside St. Mary's Church. The scheme also includes revisions the introduction of a raised uncontrolled crossing, and improved pedestrian access with wider footpaths and enhanced landscaping.
The council meeting heard that several businesses in the area welcomed the proposed improvements, while acknowledging the need for construction works to be carried out during off-peak times to minimise disruption.
Kerry County Council will now proceed with the planning and implementation of these public realm improvements in accordance with all relevant planning regulations.
