Kind-hearted students raise money for Ian
A
A charitable group of 5th year LCVP students from Killarney Community College have presented a cheque to Mr Mike O’Connell to assist in the medical costs for his son, Ian, who was involved in a serious accident in August.
Ian, a 16-year-old student from Pinewood, suffered damage to his neck and spine when he fell from his bike in the National Park. The St Brendan’s College student has now been transferred from the Mater Hospital to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire, where he will undergo intensive rehab.
The LCVP students fundraised on two separate occasions by holding a bake sale and selling baked goods at the Christmas Craft Fair. A total of €510 was raised and lodged to the Ian O’Connell Fund.
Their teacher, Ms Kerri McCarthy, said: “It was a very thoughtful donation from the class group. It’s wonderful to see the kindness shown by our students towards a student and friend in another school in our community. We hope to complete more fundraising events in the future".
