A Killarney runner who successfully completed last month’s New York Marathon has donated €2,755 to the Multiple Sclerosis Ireland South Kerry branch thanks to the generosity of his supporters.
Conor O’Leary, who is the well-known manager of the leisure centre in the Towers Hotel, competed in the November 3 race to raise money for the charity after his mother, Mary, passed away from the disease in 2011.
His decision to run New York was influenced by his wife Ann who is originally from the Bronx area of the city. In October 2018, he completed the Dublin marathon in a time of 4hrs and 38mins but he bettered this time in New York.
“I did complete the marathon as hoped in a similar time to my previous, under 4 hours - 3hrs 57mins - and am now searching for my next marathon,” he told the Killarney Advertiser. “I want to acknowledge the kindness and generosity of people and the contribution it allowed me to pass onto MS Ireland South Kerry Branch. I am humbled by people’s generosity and kindness.”
