Seriously injured hillwalker rescued on the Reeks

T
THE Kerry Mountain Rescue Team was called to the rescue of a hillwalker on the lower northern slopes of Cnoc na Toinne, above the Hag’s Glen in the McGillycuddy’s Reeks, yesterday.
The walker, a man in his late 30s from the Dublin area, sustained serious injuries in a fall from a common descent route known as the Zig-Zags or Bothar na Gige.
The man had been part of a large group involved in an ascent of Corraan Tuathail earlier in the day. KMRT members attended the incident and treated the man at the scene for multiple injuries and stretchered him down the mountain to a flat landing zone at the top of Ard na Locha, where he was immediately transported by Rescue 115 Coastguard helicopter to Tralee General Hospital for further medical treatment.
The callout concluded at approximately 5.15pm. A total of 15 KMRT personnel were involved in the rescue effort.
