A Kilcummin school girl is delighted that the hairdressers are reopening this week as she's set to cut 14 inches of her hair for a sick little girl. 12-year-old Holly Carey, from Knocklebede, Kilcummin, whose hair is currently 31 inches long, has set up her own GoFundMe page to raise funds to ‘Chloe’s Journey’.

On Thursday Holly and her mom Catherina will pay a visit to Mirash Hair and Beauty on Park Road where she'll get the chop.

Holly will then donate her beautiful hair to the Rapunzel Foundation who make wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer and all funds raised will go to Chloe’s family.

Little Chloe, whose mom Deborah is from Killorglin, is battling Neuroblastoma, a rare and very aggressive cancer which she was diagnosed with on March the 17, 2019. The tumour was so large that it had spread across much of her abdomen and wrapped around several vital organs. Chloe started chemotherapy in Crumlin Children's Hospital, with 'Chloe's Journey' founded to help her and her parents to deal with the lengthy hospital stays, oversea treatment and her ongoing care.

Holly was aware of Chloe's fight against the illness as her mom is friends with Chloe's aunt Helen Kelly.

"I have wanted to do it for a long time," Holly told the Killarney Advertiser. "I set up the page three weeks ago. I'm excited to get it cut."

With a fundraising goal of €250 - Holly is delighted to have so far raised almost €700 but would like to hopefully bring it to €1,000.

"We're really proud of her. It's a huge thing to do," her mom Catherina said.

Chloe's journey continues. To help fundraise go to GoFundMe: Hollys haircut for Chloe.

Passengers using TFI Local Link Kerry services in Killarney and across the county can now pay for their journeys using contactless card payments.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) confirmed the rollout this week, allowing commuters to simply tap their debit card, credit card, or mobile devices, such as Apple Pay and Google Pa, when boarding.

The move is designed to offer more convenience for those using high-frequency rural and regional routes.

In Killarney, the new payment option will be available on the TFI Anseo town services, which have seen a significant increase in passenger numbers since their introduction.

The contactless system is currently available for single journey fares, while those using daily or weekly passes can continue to use the Leap website or the TFI Leap Top Up App.
Alan O’Connell, General Manager of TFI Local Link Kerry, welcomed the modernisation of the fleet.

“The introduction of contactless payments is another welcome step forward for public transport in Kerry,” he said. “It complements other major projects in the county, including the expansion of TFI Local Link services and the delivery of TFI Anseo in Killarney, which is proving to be another great initiative.”

While the new technology offers a modern alternative, traditional payment methods are not being phased out. Cash payments, TFI Leap cards, and Free Travel Cards all remains fully valid across the network.
