As part of Operation Thor in the Killarney District, a day of action was conducted in the Cahersiveen, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Valentia areas over a 24 hour period.
The operation commenced on Wednesday evening with two M.I.T. checkpoints and proactive patrols in the area. Gardaí also focused on "life saver” offences such as speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
A number of detections and fines were issued in relation to these offences.
Part 2 of the operation commenced on Thursday morning.
A briefing was conducted at 9am in Cahersiveen Garda Station with the searches of six houses in Waterville, Caherdaniel and Cahersiveen commencing thereafter.
In total approximately €4,000 worth of suspected cannabis plants and herb along with a small quantity of suspected cocaine was seized arising from the searches.
No arrests have been made but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry in each incident.
The operation was resourced by Gardaí from Cahersiveen Garda Station, members from the Kerry Roads Policing Unit, Kerry Divisional Drug Unit and the Southern Region Dog Unit.
Speaking today (Friday), Superintendent Flor Murphy said that “this operation reflects the commitment of An Garda Siochana to tackle illegal drugs activity in the South Kerry area”.
“I want to reassure communities in these areas that this will be one of my policing priorities for 2021. If anyone notices any suspected drug activity, I would ask that they contact their local Garda Station.”
