GAA clubs to host substance misuse awareness evening
Three progressive East Kerry GAA clubs – Glenflesk, Kilcummin and Kilgarvan are coming together to offer an information evening on substance abuse, addiction and recovery to members of the public.
The event will take place in The Killarney Heights Hotel on 26 at 8pm and the three clubs extend a warm welcome to all members of local communities and surrounding areas to attend.
Guest speakers on the night will include award winning podcaster Timmy Long of ‘The Two Norries’ and his brothers, Thomas and John Paul.
The brothers will outline their harrowing journey into substance misuse, addiction, homelessness and crime and their inspirational story of recovery and change.
Practical insights into understanding young people and talking to them about substance misuse, as well as information on local support services will also be offered on the night.
This event, which is part of the ‘Looking After Me’ initiative, will focus on prevention and intervention in the area of substance misuse and is aimed at helping parents, coaches, teachers and anyone involved with young people, who are interested in finding out more about supporting them in making healthy and positive life choices.
“This is a unique opportunity for all, regardless of age, to benefit from the experience of remarkable speakers who have travelled a difficult path and are sharing their stories to support others”, said Mish O’Donoghue of Glenflesk GAA Club.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
