Fundraiser to help get Leah McMahon to European Basketball Championships
By Sean Moriarty
St Paul's Basketball Club are organising a fundraising cake sale on Saturday to help pay for teammate Leah McMahon’s travelling expenses for the forthcoming European Championship.
Leah is a member of the Irish Under 16 Ladies Basketball team and they are contesting the European Championships in Montenegro in mid-August.
She is just back from smaller tournaments in Luxembourg, England and Scotland and travels on a weekly basis to Dublin for training sessions.
Despite being a member of the Irish team she must cover her own travel expenses and that is why her head coach Patricia McCarthy and her teammates have come together to organise Saturday’s fundraiser.
“We are very grateful for the work Patricia and Paul Sheehan [St Paul’s chairman] put it and thank them and all at St Paul’s for the support,” Leah’s father Karl told the Killarney Advertiser.
The cake sale will take place at the Nave Coffee House on the grounds of Killarney Racecourse from 12 noon until 2pm on Saturday.
