The landscapes of Ireland has turned one Ukrainian resident of Killarney into an award winning photographer.

Iryna Halaieva was a fashion photographer in her homeland.

She joined Killarney Camera Club to make new friends and this month was named as the winner in the club’s most recent photography competition.

Her photo of Fanad Head in County Donegal impressed judges.

“While I usually travel by myself when taking photographs, I heard that Rodney O’Callaghan, a great photographer from Cork, was leading a photography workshop to distant Donegal. So, without any hesitation I joined his workshop,” she said.

“Donegal was an absolutely amazing place for landscape photography. Landscape photography is new for me, as in Ukraine I was interested in fashion photography only. Now I cannot imagine my life without landscape photography and Ireland is the best place for doing it. The photo was taken on a cloudy morning. I used a relatively slow shutter speed to give a silky look to the water and this also gives a sense of movement in the clouds.”
