THE Killarney Cardiac Response Unit needs to fill a roster 24 hours, seven days a week so new volunteers are essential and very welcome.

If you would like to find out more about what the team does, why not come along to its information event in the Killarney Plaza hotel this evening where you will meet active responders. The information evening takes place from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Want to join the team?

• Are you over 18?

• Do you live within 6km of Killarney Town Centre?

• Do you have access to a fully insured vehicle?

• Do you have a full driver’s licence?

If you fit the above criteria and would like to join, contact Killarney Cardiac Response Unit on 085-8255280 or call to the information evening in the Killarney Plaza this evening.

Since Killarney Cardiac Response Unit went live with the National Ambulance Service on August 25, 2015, it has responded to over 400 calls alongside the ambulance service.

And it is always on the lookout for new volunteers. “We are now launching a recruitment drive for new members,” said scheme co-ordinator Leo O’Connor.

The Killarney Cardiac Response Unit complements the National Ambulance Service by providing care and utilising those vital few minutes until the ambulance team arrives on the scene. “We cover an area of 6km from the centre of Killarney town,” added Leo.

“If anyone is interested in joining up and learning lifesaving skills please contact our recruitment officer on 085-8255280.”

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Emergency First Responders (EMFs) are welcome to join also.

Leo paid tribute to sponsors Independent Irish Healthfoods Ltd, the Killarney Plaza Hotel and Tricel. “We would like to thank them for their very generous support,” said the unit co-ordinator.

Spring welcomed with trad music at Muckross House

A special musical celebration titled ‘St. Brigid and the Arrival of Spring’ took place recently in the great hall of Muckross House.

The event, presented by the Muckross House Research Library on behalf of the Trustees, featured performances by world-famous tin whistle player Mary Bergin, master harper Kathleen Loughnane, and fiddle and bouzouki player Mick Conneely.
The evening included a repertoire of jigs, reels, and slow airs. During the performance, Kathleen Loughnane shared historical insights into the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792, where Edward Bunting recorded ancient tunes to preserve them. She also highlighted the story of a North Kerry man named Lyons who served as the harper to Lord Antrim.
Former Mayor of Killarney, Michael Gleeson, was among the attendees and praised the event for its informative and enjoyable atmosphere. He noted that the music helped dispel the gloom of recent weather and extended his thanks to Patricia and the organizing team.
The performers brought distinguished backgrounds to the Killarney stage. Mary Bergin, originally from Dublin and now living in Connemara, received an Honorary Doctorate from UCD in 2022. Kathleen Loughnane, a native of
