Construction of pedestrian underpass on Bypass road set for next year

By Sean Moriarty
The construction of a new pedestrian and cyclist underpass crossing the Bypass Road near the Lewis Road junction could begin next year.
However, the advancement of the project depends on a lot of things like land acquisitions and design works.
A Kerry County Council official gave an update to elected members at Wednesday’s Killarney Municipal Meeting a following a request by Mayor Marie Moloney.
“Consultations are ongoing with the landowners at a newly identified location for this facility. A topographical survey of the site has recently been completed and an underground utility survey is scheduled to take place in September,” the official said.
“It is hoped that the statutory consent notice for the new will be published in Q4 2021. On obtaining the statutory consent, the land acquisition for the overall scheme will commence and the Tender Documents will be prepared with a view to commencing construction in 2022.”
