Christy praised as ‘fantastic ambassador’ for Killarney

W
WELL-WISHERS have been swift to congratulate Christy Sheehan who has called time on his career at The Laurels Pub in Killarney.
Christy has worked at the landmark Market Cross business for several decades and was described as “a fantastic ambassador for The Laurels, for Killarney and indeed for all of Kerry” by Kate O’Leary of The Laurels. “He always had a charming welcome for visitors to The Laurels and was always ready to share his time and knowledge of the town and county,” added Ms O’Leary, outgoing Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce president.
“He was well liked and well loved by many; he is the end of an era, an institution in his own right. There is hardly a return visitor to The Laurels that doesn't remember Christy or that Christy does not remember – usually even by name. Customer service was second nature to him.”
Kate noted that one of Christy’s most famous remarks always raises a smile. “When asked the question, ‘What is a good whiskey?’ he would always reply, ‘The one someone else pays for!’” she said.
