Christmas is coming to Killarney early
By Sean Moriarty
The organising committee of Christmas in Killarney received a timely pre-season boost after being included for funding under the Festival and Participative Events Programme 2021.
The annual festival, which includes weekly street parades and extensive seasonal decorations in the town centre, traditionally runs from late November until the New Year.
The full festival last ran in 2019 after the pandemic forced a scaled back version last year.
Under the programme, the festival will receive €2,169.25 from a total of €19,000 in funding that has been allocated to a range of Kerry festivals.
Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce welcomed the funding.
“Christmas in Killarney is a very important festival for the town and the county,” Chamber President Niall Kelleher told the Killarney Advertiser. “This funding goes with the contributions made by many businesses in the town to bring a welcome event to the town.”
Further details of the 2021 Christmas in Killarney programme of events will be released in the next week or two.
