A feast of top quality football and a real party atmosphere has been lined up for Killarney on Saturday, July 27 with the inaugural Killarney Celtic FC seven-a-side summer soccer tournament.

.

Several top teams from throughout Munster will travel to Celtic Park – home of the Kerry league and cup holders – to showcase their skills with separate competitions for men and women’s teams and a hugely competitive event guaranteed.
The competitions will provide 12-hours of non-stop action and the day will be a real family occasion with activities lined up to keep all ages occupied.
The kick-off will be at 9am and the games will continue right through until that evening with the finals in the ladies and men’s cup and shield competitions bringing the on-field action to a climax.
The carnival atmosphere will be greatly enhanced by a giant marquee with professional caterers and a full bar and there will be live entertainment on site throughout the day.
DJs Mark Moynihan and Jack Enright will be spinning the discs from 2-4pm and 4-7pm respectively before lively local trad band, Hacksaw Kéilí, take to the stage at 7 o’clock.
In addition to the soccer action and the live music, there will be a children’s play area all through the day and plenty of novelties to keep the younger generation busy.
Some of the top teams in the province will be in action including Munster Junior Cup winners Newmarket FC from Clare, Cork sides Leeds AFC, Ringmahon Rangers and Avondale United, Limerick’s Abbeyfeale United, St Brendan’s Park and Dynamos will travel from Tralee, Avenue United from Ennis, Nenagh AFC, Killorglin FC, Mastergeeha FC, Killarney Athletic and, of course, the hosts Killarney Celtic.
The women’s sides will include Killarney Celtic, Clonakilty United, Quarry Park Rangers, Inter Kenmare, Cork sides Drinagh Rangers, Leeside United and Wilton United and LB Rovers from Lisselton.
There is a great incentive for teams to give it their all with €1,000 on offer for the men’s cup winners and €500 for the women’s champions.
There will be ample parking in the vicinity of Celtic Park on the day and the all-inclusive admission fee is just €10.
“The event promises to be a real feast of football and a fabulous family day out,” said Celtic official Paul Sherry.
“We have been thinking about hosting an event of this magnitude for some time and we are delighted that clubs from all over Munster have expressed an interest in taking part,” he added.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce has expressed condolences following the death of Dick Henggeler, the well-known owner of The Rose Hotel in Tralee.

Mr Henggeler passed away peacefully at his home in Baltimore, USA surrounded by his Aghadoe-born wife Eibhlin (née Moriarty), their son Franz, and other family members.
Dick and Eibhlin purchased The Rose Hotel in 2015 in tribute to their late daughter Dorothy, who represented Washington DC in the 2011 Rose of Tralee Festival.
The Chamber said Mr Henggeler would be remembered for his warmth, good nature and positive approach, as well as for being a forward-thinking and knowledgeable businessman.
“He knew how to run a good hotel and that was and still is very obvious at The Rose Hotel, which is a great success story,” the Chamber said.
It added that continuity of ownership will remain in place, with Eibhlin, Franz, daughter-in-law Amber, and grandchildren Conrad and Rowan continuing to honour Dick’s legacy and vision for the hotel.
“Dick took enormous personal pride in Tralee and all of Kerry and he was always available to generously support any community initiative or endeavour undertaken in Killarney,” the Chamber said.
“He will be greatly missed by all that knew him but he leaves a wonderful legacy.”

He will repose at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney, on Friday (October 17), from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral will arrive at St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday morning at 10:00am for Requiem Mass at 10:30am, with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Cemetery. The Requiem Mass will be live streamed at https://www.churchservices.tv/killarneycathedral.
