Celebrating anniversary with a clean sweep
M
MEMBERS of Killarney Tidy Towns started the New Year with a real clean sweep as they swung into action on Main Street on January 1.
They were joined by none other than Fr Tidy Towns himself, Archdeacon Michael Murphy. Fr Murphy has been key to Kerry’s successful Tidy Towns wins over the decades, ensuring Sneem and Kenmare as well as Killarney won gold medals in the national awards. “We are all ready to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the National Tidy Towns Competition, which was first held in 1958 to honour the tidiest towns and villages in Ireland,” said Johnny McGuire of Killarney Tidy Towns.
Johnny and Fr Murphy took to the airwaves on Tuesday for a Radio Kerry interview highlighting the benefits of the Tidy Towns movement.
