A young sporty local girl has progressed to the next step for the Munster Development Squad - the first female player from Killarney RFC to do so.

Transition Year student from St Brigid's Presentation Secondary School, Kate Donoghue, was introduced to rugby during her PE class in TY and moved on to participate with Killarney RFC. Kate is the first female player to progress through this pathway through the club and school.

She will now train over the summer with the Munster squad U18 in preparation for the Inter Provisional competitions in late August. Her school this week congratulated her amazing achievement as well as Killarney RFC.

“Killarney RFC would like to congratulate Kate on progressing onto the next stage," Liam Murphy said.
"Kate will now train over the summer with Munster Rugby in preparation for the Inter Pro competitions. Kate is the first female player to progress through the Killarney RFC pathway and we at the club are very proud of her achievements. This is a historic occasion for the club and a result of the phenomenal work gone into developing girls rugby to date at KRFC. We now field teams at U14, U16 and U18 as well as having many girls play rugby at Minis to U12. It’s wonderful to see Kate progressing and she is a wonderful role model for the younger players of the club.”
