Time travel on the cards in Killarney this evening

KILLARNEY men and women will be booking their tickets for a whistle-stop tour back in time this evening, Friday, July 29. Members of the Franciscan Friary folk group and youth club will be rolling back the years as they reunite in The Dromhall Hotel, with the fun starting at 8.30pm.
Carmel Lanigan, a past member, said that she has many happy memories of being involved in the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service-run group. “It was a great place to meet when we were growing up, with a lot of activities and visits to other youth clubs,” she said.
Another past member of the youth club, Donal Whitty O’Sullivan, still has his membership card from the club from 1970. “I had great times there and have so many fond memories. Through the encouragement of Brother Victor, Brother Luke and Fr Vivian, the youth club was started up,” said Donal.
“We had our own tennis court, basketball court, open air swimming pool (which was covered in over a period of time), sports room with table tennis, ring board and various board games. The record player was in big demand too, with all the latest hits from the 1970s. But most of all and my favourite, we had our own soccer pitch where unfortunately the car park is today.”
He added: “We had access to the Aras Phádraig as well, where we had hops, shows and indoor activities. We went to many movies there when it was run by the Abbey Cinema. “Well done to all involved for rekindling great memories from the past.”

Person of interest leaves jurisdiction in Killarney murder case
Gardaí investigating the murder of Jamey Carney have confirmed that a person of interest left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday July 7, prior to the discovery of the body.
An Garda Síochána are currently engaging with international law enforcement partners as part of the ongoing investigation into the death at a domestic residence on Muckross Road. The murder investigation is being carried out by the Serious Crime Unit, Kerry Division, with assistance from national units including the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).
The scene at Muckross Road remains preserved today, and the technical examination is continuing.
Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. In particular, anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between 11pm on July 6 and 5am on July 7, and who may have camera, CCTV, or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the investigation team.

Killarney Camera Club member Ade Desbrow has secured first place in the Unrestricted Category of the club’s final competition of the season.
His winning photograph, titled ‘Submerged Flowers’, took the top spot in the Open Print Competition.
