‘Blue Road’ featuring Jessie Buckley to screen in Killarney for first time
The film Blue Road: the Edna O’Brien story, featuring Killarney-born actress Jessie Buckley, will be screened at The Great Southern Hotel, on June 18, at 7.00pm.
This marks the first time the film has been shown in Buckley's hometown.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Children Not Numbers Aid Project in Gaza.
The film, directed by Sinéad O'Shea, celebrates the life of Irish writer Edna O’Brien, who passed away last year.
Alongside Buckley, the film features Declan Conlon and Gabriel Byrne, and author Anne Enright.
Actors Ellie Coffey and Ciara Coakley from West End House School of Arts will introduce the screening with live readings from O’Brien’s debut novel, The Country Girls.
The book was banned in Ireland, but O’Brien continued her literary career, becoming known as a groundbreaking author. She highlighted the challenges and inequalities faced by Irish women, including those in the Magdalene Laundries.
Organiser Sarah O’Brien described the event as a "unique opportunity to view this electrifying film and contribute to the aid efforts for children caught up in the war in Gaza. An evening of love and admiration for one of Ireland’s most talented writers of the last century."
First day for Lissivigeen Junior Infants
Excitement filled the air in Lissivigeen National School on Thursday as more than 30 Junior Infants marked their very first day of school.
The new pupils settled into their classrooms, taking their first big steps in primary education under the guidance of Principal Ellen Cagney, teachers Kristine Sheahan and Bríd Ryan, and SNA Marie Carroll-O’Sullivan. The children spent their morning making new friends, exploring their classrooms, and getting used to school routine during a memorable milestone for the school community.
