Beaufort GAA to walk with Charlie Bird
By Sean Moriarty
Beaufort GAA Club is organising a charity walk tomorrow (Saturday) in support of RTE presenter Charlie Bird.
On Saturday Charlie, who was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease late last year will, with a group of friends and supporters, climb Croagh Patrick in Mayo to raise funds and awareness for the illness.
The charity event has gained support from community organisations all over the country and Beaufort GAA is one of several local groups who have organised a walk in solidarity with him from Kate Kearney’s Cottage to landmark sights in the Gap of Dunloe area starting at 9am.
One walk is 10km in length and going as far as Arbutus Cottage, while a shorter 5km walk will take participants to the Wishing Bridge.
“This is open to all abilities and if people do not want to go the full distances they can turn back at anytime,” Beaufort GAA secretary Brigid Hartnett told the Killarney Advertiser.
“Entry fee is by donation bucket and all funds go to the Motor Neuron Disease and Pieta.”
More details are available from Brigid on 087 9975737.
