The announcement was made on Wednesday this week and while the additional bank holiday is a one-off this year and new annual holiday has also been announced to coincide with St Brigid’s Day – February 1 – from 2023 onwards.
Ms Randles said its good news, not just from a hotel and tourism point of view but it will also give people a welcome break after two very difficult years since the onslaught of the pandemic.

“But it is good for people too, if they just want to stay at home, they deserve this."
