By Sean Moriarty
Kerry and Dr Croke’s player Tony Brosnan captained the Munster Technology University team to victory over University College Dublin in the opening round of the Sigerson Cup on Wednesday.
rosnan contributed 1-4 to his team’s total of 1-13 to dismiss the favourites who managed 0-11 despite missing some of the first half to injury – although he did return for the second half.
There was plenty local interest in the game that was played in Tralee.
Brosnan’s Dr Croke’s teammates Mark Fitzgerald, Mark O’Shea and Evan Looney were on the starting 15 alongside Darragh Lyne (Killarney Legion) Dara Moynihan ( Spa) Paul O’Shea (Kilcummin) Mike Breen (Beaufort) and Anthony Darmody (Rathmore).
The MTU side was managed by former Kerry great, Aidan O’Mahony, of Rathmore.
Meanwhile, Fossa’s David Clifford starred for the University of Limerick as they beat Sligo IT on Tuesday night.
