The festive spirit was strong in several local schools as they donned their Christmas jumpers for charity.

The Student Council at St Brigid's Killarney organised a Christmas Jumper Day in the school to raise funds for the Kerry Hospice and the Palliative Care Unit in University Hospital Kerry.

St Brigid's is working with six other Killarney schools in this very worthy fundraiser and all schools will pool their donations together.

“Kerry Hospice provides an invaluable service to the people of Kerry and their families. It costs €10,000 a week to run. We are delighted in St. Brigid's to join forces with other schools in our community, get into the festive spirit and raise money for this fantastic local cause,” said a school spokesperson.
The fundraiser was all the more special at St Brendan’s College. Staff and students there remembered the school’s accountant, Clare Quinlivan, who passed away four months ago.
“This fundraiser was, in our case, in memory of a very much loved and sorely missed member of the St Brendan’s school community,” said Elaine Moynihan, “This is the third year schools across Killarney have joined forces for a common cause at Christmas and this year we were thrilled to get St Oliver’s National School on board too.”

The annual Killarney Regatta Dance took place on September 25 as rowers, families and supporters came together to celebrate their successful year.

The racing was cancelled in September due to bad weather.

The Killarney Regatta is one of Ireland’s oldest rowing events, having first begun in 1788.

The dance took place at the Killarney Oaks Hotel where there was a lot of excitement and fun. Six rowing clubs, Fossa, Workman’s, St Brendan’s, Commercials, Flesk Valley, and Muckross, came together to celebrate the community and its shared history.

Amelia Counihan was crowned as the Regatta Queen.

The Queen represents the spirit pride and grace of the rowing community and has been a tradition in the club for generations.

Workman’s Rowing Club congratulated Amelia and described her as a woman who embodies everything that their tradition stands for.

The club said: “Queen is more than a title — it is a celebration of history, community, and the spirit of Killarney rowing.”
