“Killarney is the best value for money” says councillor

A Killarney councillor has defended the town as a value for money destination.
Cllr Niall ‘Botty’ O’Callaghan was reacting to national media reports that suggested that some hotels were charging excessive fees for accommodation during the summer season.
Earlier this week a contributor to RTÉ’s Liveline Show was angry after claiming he was quoted €4,110 for a three-night hotel stay in Kerry this summer. The exact location of the hotel was not revealed.
“Killarney is the best value in the country but some media have latched on to this €1000s and €1000s story,” said Cllr O’Callaghan whose family own the Fáilte Hotel on College St.
A simple survey by the Killarney Advertiser seeking quotes for a twin room for three nights from July 3 to 5 revealed that the average prices were in the region of €550 for the stay or around €90 per person per night for bed and breakfast in various town centre hotels.
