Legendary reggae stars confirm Killarney gig

One of the world’s greatest reggae bands have confirmed that they will play in the INEC Arena next November. Chart toppers UB40, this week released details of their 2021 'Bigga Baggariddim Tour' across 24 different venues in Ireland and the UK.

Best known for 1980s and 1990s hits like ‘Red Red Wine’ and ‘I Got You Babe’, the Birmingham-based band will be on their second visit to Killarney having previously played at the Gleneagle in 2009.

“We just can’t wait to feel the vibe and love of a live crowd, dancing and singing, moving and a grooving. That’s what we live for,” said the band’s guitarist and vocalist Robin Campbell.

Tickets are on sale via www.inec.ie and www.ticketmaster.ie.

The long-running saga of Listry Bridge returned to the Killarney Municipal District agenda on Wednesday morning, with Cllr Niall Kelleher demanding a breakdown of how a recently awarded €100,000 grant will be spent.

In response to the query, Kerry County Council confirmed that the funding is earmarked for a suite of interim safety measures designed to improve the notorious bottleneck.
The planned upgrades include a reduced speed limit on both approaches to the bridge to force a slower flow of traffic.
The Council also intends to upgrade all existing signage and road linings, while extending the anti-skid surfacing to provide better vehicle grip on the approach.
Additionally, the funds will cover essential maintenance to the bridge parapet and the repair of pavement defects that have developed on the road surface.

Cinema-goers in Killarney will have the chance to see local star Jessie Buckley on the big screen from this Friday when her latest film Hamnet opens at Cinema Killarney on East Avenue.

The release comes amid major international attention for the Killarney-born actress, who is at the centre of awards season buzz following her performance in the film.
Buckley, 36, recently won Best Actress at the Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica for her role and is widely tipped for further honours as the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Oscars approach.
Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, Hamnet is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s bestselling novel and tells the story behind the creation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
