Top award for Kerry scientist

Cliona O'Shea, Blackwater, Killarney was awarded the ‘President's Prize Medal’ from ‘The Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine’ recently.
The two highest scoring final year research projects from each of the three Biomedical Science Courses in Ireland are entered into the Presidents Prize competition each year. This involves each entrant presenting to a panel of five judges at the ‘Biomedical Conference’ and answering questions.
The winner of the competition goes on to represent Ireland in the European Association for Professions in Biomedical Science Internal Conference.
Clíona's research project was titled 'An investigation into the ability of the bacteriocin nisin to inhibit coagulase negative Staphylococci’.
She is currently working as a Medical Scientist in the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory in Crumlin Children’s Hospital and hopes to further her studies.
