Kilgarvan roads damaged due to flooding
Mayor of Kerry Patrick O'Connor-Scarteen has called on Kerry County Council to apply for emergency funding to resurface roads damaged due to flooding.
On Saturday he visited various locations around Kilgarvan including, Top of Coom, Incheese, Gortlahard and Coomolougha and the R569 Kilgarvan to Loo Bridge Road which were badly damaged due to torrential rain making some of them unpassable.
"Firstly, I wish to thank KCC outdoor staff for going above and beyond in assisting getting roads damaged passable for motorists," he said. "Unfortunately the road below at Coomolougha is still unpassable due to severe damage to the bridge. I have called upon KCC to apply for emergency funding to resurface these roads and to repair the bridge at Coomolough."
He said that it is essential for local residents and land owners that they can get too and from their properties safely.
Many visitors and tourists also use these roads and private landholdings were also damaged.
"Unfortunately we are seeing more and more extreme weather events and it is essential that we do all that we can to ensure people and their properties are safe."
