There was a strong interest in the employment opportunities on offer in the 12 hotel groups that took part in this year’s Hotel Recruitment Event, held at the Great Southern Hotel in Killarney last week. Now in its second year, the event, organised by South Kerry Development Partnership (SKDP), gives both employers and potential employees the opportunity to meet each other in an informal setting to discuss potential employment opportunities.
This year’s event saw an increase of 50 percent in the numbers of hotels taking part with representatives from 12 different hotel groups in attendance offering opportunities across all areas of the hospitality sector. Over 100 potential job seekers registered to attend the event.
The event gives people with no direct experience in the hospitality sector the chance to start off in a new career which they might not get the chance to do through the more formal recruitment process.
SKDP Enterprise Officer Joanne Griffin said she was very pleased with how the event went. “There was an excellent turnout of both hotels and potential employees at this year’s event, with people travelling from all parts of Kerry and beyond, including overseas, to try and secure employment in the sector,” she said.
Those attending were very happy with the format and the informal setting and said that it offered a chance to match people with people. The event was held about a month earlier than last year which suited the hotels better also.
“I will be following up with both the hotels and the potential employees in the next week to facilitate the next stage in the process,” Joanne added, and she noted that a number of hotels had actually already arranged interviews with some of those attending the event.
