A novel solution to the rent and accommodation crisis has been put forward by Mayor of Killarney Cllr Michael Gleeson.

He wants Kerry County Council to invite property owners in Killarney town, Rathmore town and in the villages of Kilcummin and Barraduff to indicate if they have unused portions in their residences available for letting through the Council to individuals or families.

Kerry County Council will shortly undertake a public campaign on various letting and leasing schemes in order to encourage property owners to consider making any vacant property available to the Council as part of its Social Housing Programme.

“If such a scheme is successful it would provide much needed accommodation for people in need of a home, and it would also re-invigorate locations that have experienced population decrease,” Cllr Gleeson told the Killarney Advertiser.
