Local Kerry players impress at Munster Badminton Championships

The Munster grade C, F and H Championships took place in the Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre on Sunday last. It was a long day of badminton with 179 entries altogether and almost 200 games being played from 9am to 9pm that night.
With big entries in each of the different grades, many Kerry players performed very well in reaching semi-finals and finals.
In the grade C, Edel Kenny (Ballyheigue) teamed up with Niamh O’Connor (Waterford) who is from Dingle and played all her juvenile badminton here in Kerry. Unfortunately they lost out to Aisling Chapman and Caroline Hayes of Cork in the final.
Tom Bourke also made it to the final of the men’s grade C singles beating his fellow Kerry man Fergal Hannon in a great semi-final match (as every match played between the two is). Tom unfortunately went on to lose out to Carrigaline’s Adam Barry in a very good final, 18-21 and 20-22.
In grade F, Jennifer Estella (Tralee) and Olena Paiuk (Tralee) made it to the final of the ladies’ doubles unfortunately losing out to Naoise Murtagh (Waterford) and Michaela Tuan (Clare) in the final. In the mixed doubles, Josie Gilbert (Ballyheigue) and Alvin Rahman (Killarney) made it to the semi-finals, losing out to Oisín Hannigan and Molly Keneally (both Waterford) in a close three-set game.
Kerry Badminton expressed gratitude to all that were involved in the organising and running of the competition on the day.
