THIS weekend sees the WRC circus arrive in Germany for round ten of the championship. Kris Meeke and co-driver by Paul Nagle, Craig Breen and Andreas Mikkelsen head up the Citroen WR line-up. A reserved approach will be applied by Citroen again this weekend as they continue to come to terms with the cars issues.

Nine time World Champion Sébastien Loeb this week returned to his old team, Citroen, to test the 2017 Citroen C3. Loeb took part in a tarmac test to assist the team in gathering date ahead of this weekend’s tarmac event amidst a torrid 2017 campaign so far. Citroen has indicated that Loeb could participate in future gravel tests and a possibility of returning to competition. Loeb is contracted to Peugeot, a sister company to Citroen. However that contract runs out at the end of this year. This is fuelling speculation of Loeb returning to competition with Citroen to get their WR campaign back on track.

The last round results see Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville on equal points on the top of the leader board with four rounds remaining.

Six different winners over nine rounds has made this season the most interesting in recent years. At this stage in the championship there would be a clear favourite but this year the championship will be down to a puncture or spin for the top two and introduce a dnf for either one and that introduces Tanak and Latvala to the mix. The latter is a high possibility with three out of the four remaining rounds on gravel and mixed surfaces. It is all to play for.

The long-awaited Beaufort Wastewater Scheme has taken a significant step forward following the Government’s decision to increaseproject funding to €7 million.

The uplift forms part of an additional €14.3 million announced under Measure A8 of the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, supporting seven rural wastewater projects nationwide.
Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill welcomed the increase, saying the funding is “most welcome and long overdue,” but added that the project now needs to move ahead without further delay.
Minister Michael Healy-Rae also acknowledged the progress, stating, “This is a hugely important step forward for Beaufort,” and said he will continue pushing for delivery.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said the upgrade is essential for the village, noting, “Beaufort has waited long enough.”
The enhanced funding allows the scheme to proceed to the next stage, with all parties calling for construction to begin as soon as possible.

Killarney Musical Society’s upcoming production of ‘All Shook Up’ will feature multiple generations of three different families performing side by side.

The show will run from February 10 to 12 in the Gleneagle Arena. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are on sale now.
Music is well known to bring people of all ages together, and this is clearly evident within the Killarney Musical Society, where several families are sharing the stage this year.
The Spillane/Murray family boasts three generations in the production. Phil Spillane has been an active member since she joined KMS in September 1989.
This year, she performs alongside her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Caoimhe, who is playing the character Lorraine. All three agree they are having great fun practising dance steps and harmonies together and will treasure this time forever.
Mother and daughter Annie and Alannah McIlroy are taking the stage together for the first time. Annie appeared in the 2023 production of Michael Collins, while Alannah joined the cast last year for Evita. They state that the best part of performing together is the quality time they share, not just during rehearsals but on the journeys to and from them, as both share a deep love for musicals.
Finally, the mother and daughter pair of Linda and Eilise O’Donoghue continue a family tradition. While Linda’s father was involved with KMS back in 1986, Linda herself joined in 2015 after being persuaded by her daughter Eilise, who has been a member since 2012. Before each performance, the two rely on each other: Eilise checks Linda’s hair and makeup, while Linda makes sure Eilise’s costume is perfect. They also enjoy practising their alto lines together, making the experience especially meaningful.
The society looks forward to welcoming audiences to the Gleneagle Arena for the three-night run of ‘All Shook Up’ next February.
