Workmen’s rowers continue Brendan’s voyage
T
THE late Brendan Heffernan was honoured by Workmen’s Rowing Club during the week with a plaque unveiled at the club in his memory.
Brendan, who passed away in September 2013, was the popular treasurer of the club. A very special boat ‘Brendan’ was named in his honour after Brendan died following a long and brave battle with cancer.
Brendan worked tirelessly to raise funds for Kerry Hospice Foundation, Recovery Haven Kerry, The Mercy Oncology Unit, and his own Workmen’s Rowing Club. He was represented on Wednesday by his parents Kathleen and Donie, who unveiled a plaque in his memory at the boathouse.
In addition, the club named its new double scull vessel the “Caitriona” in honour of Brendan’s sister, who has spearheaded a host of fundraising initiatives for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.
Canon Tom Looney, Fossa, officiated at the blessing of the boat and also steering proceedings were Workmen RC’s chairman Timmy Moynihan and president Mary Moynihan.
