All welcome to help Killarney branch out on Monday
K
KILLARNEY took part in a major tree hug earlier this year and now the community is being invited to branch out again. All are welcome to help support the town as it enters a competition for the European Tree of the Year 2017.
Members of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society are behind the drive to put forward a special grove of trees in Monsignor O’Flaherty’s memory for the awards. “We have been encouraged to enter the O’Flaherty Memorial Grove at Muckross arboretum into this EU contest,” said Jerry O’Grady of the society.
So how can you help? “Next Monday morning, November 28, at 10am, photographer Don MacMonagle will be doing a photo-shoot at the grove to accompany our submission,” sad Jerry. “We will have 50 students from the monsignor’s old alma mater (Presentation Monastery National School) but it would be great to have as many others as possible from the general Killarney community also in the picture. So, if there is anyone with 20 minutes to spare next Monday morning, at 10am, you would be most welcome to join us at the grove, which is reached easily from the Dundag car park or from the main Muckross garden. Why not make it part of your Monday morning walk in Muckross?”
