MANY hands make light work – and the Killarney Tidy Towns Meitheal organisers were faced with the pleasantly unusual situation of having the number of volunteers exceeding the amount of gloves and brushes available for last Monday’s clean-up.
But the problem was swiftly solved, with upwards of 35 men and women stepping up to the mark and making a clean sweep on the Muckross Road. “It’s unusual that we have more people than equipment but it was great to see the enthusiasm, and some tremendous work was done,” said spokesman Johnny McGuire.
Cahernane House Hotel general manager Emer Corridan, herself one of the volunteers, together with her staff treated, all present to refreshments in the salubrious drawing room of the hotel after the clean-up. “It was a great outing that saw us put the edge on the Muckross Road approach to Killarney,” added Johnny.
The next outing, a clean-up on the Cork Road, takes place tomorrow evening, August 14, meeting at the junction of Woodlawn and the Cork Road at 6.30pm. “We re calling on residents and businesspeople in the area to come out and help with the work of the Tidy Towns volunteers this Monday evening,” said Johnny.
