Ultra sound Kevin and Blaine raise €11k for charity
C
Congratulations to intrepid Killarney men Kevin Leahy of the Black Sheep Hostel and Blaine Lyne who recently took part in the Tom Crean Ultra Marathon - and raised a whopping €11,000 for Down Syndrome Ireland in the process.
The Tom Crean Ultra was held on March 10 to commemorate the first Irish ultra marathoner, Tom Crean (1877-1938) from Annascaul. On several expeditions to the Antarctic, Tom trekked across that inhospitable terrain to save the lives of his compatriots. No lives were at stake on this particular adventure (despite there being quite a lot of snow on the Dingle hills) but some crucial funds were raised for the Kerry branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.
Over a dozen brave and hardy men started out running from Dingle, over Brandon Mountain, on to part of The Dingle Way and then over Maghanabo, down to Lough Annascaul and finishing in The South Pole Inn some 48km later.
Organisers were full of praise for all of the participants, especially Kevin and Blaine who went above and beyond in their remarkable fundraising efforts
